Stainless Steel Sphere—Surface Treatment

Mirror polishing is common when it comes to stainless steel spheres. However, there are six surface treatment that are used in stainless steel industry. The methods of surface treatment are as follow.

01-Sandblasting

Sand blasting uses compressed air as the power to form a high-speed jet beam to spray the blasting material (copper ore, quartz sand, corundum, iron sand, sea sand) on the surface of the workpiece, which is processed at high speed so that the appearance or shape of the workpiece surface can be changed.

Sand blasting has a variety of applications in engineering and surface processes, such as: increasing the viscosity of adhesive parts, optimizing surface burrs after machining, surface matte treatment and decontamination.

The sand blasting process is more efficient than manual sanding. The stainless steel treated in this method boasts and durable characteristics.

02-chemical treatment

Chemical treatment is a collective term for the use of chemical or electrochemical treatment to make a layer of stable compounds on the surface of stainless steel. Electroplating, as we often say, is treated electrochemically.

This method includes removing rust through using acid solution and anodic dissolution (electrolysis), forming a protective film on the metal surface through phosphate treatment, chromate treatment, blackening, anodizing, etc. This method can achieve complex patterns and meet retro or modern design requirements.

03-Mirror finish

The mirror treatment of stainless steel is simply to polish the stainless steel surface. The polishing methods are divided into physical polishing and chemical polishing. The mirror treatment gives people a sense of fashion and high-end simplicity.

04-Surface coloring

Coloring not only offers products a variety of colors, increases the variety of products, but also improves the property of anti-resistance and corrosion resistance of the product. There are many methods of surface coloring, which are systematically divided into A. chemical oxidation coloring method, B. electrochemical oxidation coloring method, C. ion deposition oxide coloring metho, D. high temperature oxidation coloring method and E. vapor phase cracking coloring.

05-Surface drawing

Wire drawing is a common method used in stainless steel products. It can be made into several types according to the needs of decoration, such as straight lines, random lines, threads, corrugations, and spiral lines. The products treated in this way offer a sense of superiority, fine gloss, abrasion-resistant surface and individual texture. It is widely used in electronic equipment, kitchen appliances, and mechanical equipment, etc.

06-Spray

The spraying of stainless steel is substantially different from the coloring mentioned above. Depending on the material, some spray paints may damage the oxide layer on the stainless steel surface. But different colors of stainless steel products can be made by means of spraying using a simple process, and  different spray paints can be used to change the texture of stainless steel. For example, the stainless steel cups is made through spraying.
